46. ROSALINA & LUMA

Franchise / home series: Super Mario

Notable non-Smash games: Super Mario Galaxy (2007); Super Mario Galaxy 2 (2010); Super Mario 3D World (2013)

Rosalina & Luma joined Smash 4 as a duo fighter representing the cosmic side of the Mario universe. Rosalina, introduced in Super Mario Galaxy, brings a celestial, motherly presence, accompanied by a small star-like Luma that fights alongside her.

In Smash, Rosalina is a puppeteer-style character, commanding Luma at a distance while she herself stays mobile. Proper Luma positioning allows for incredibly wide hitbox coverage, deadly traps, and extended pressure. Gravitational Pull gives her the ability to nullify or steal projectiles, reinforcing her identity as a space-controlling fighter.

Early in Smash 4’s life, Rosalina & Luma were among the most feared characters in competitive play, thanks to their oppressive ledge trapping and kill power. Though carefully balanced over time, they remain a technical, high-reward choice for players who enjoy controlling two units at once and dominating neutral with creative setups.
