47. LITTLE MAC

Franchise / home series: Punch-Out!!

Notable non-Smash games: Punch-Out!! (NES, 1987); Super Punch-Out!! (1994); Punch-Out!! (Wii, 2009)

Little Mac debuted in Smash 4, bringing the boxing-focused Punch-Out!! series into the roster. A pure boxer with no projectiles, he embodies ground-based combat and raw punching power.

In Smash, Little Mac is extraordinarily strong on the ground, with fast tilts, armor on several smash attacks, and a KO Meter that builds as he deals and takes damage—granting him a devastating, guard-breaking super punch when full. However, he has notoriously poor air mobility and recovery, making him one of the weakest off-stage characters in the game.

This extreme contrast creates a high-risk design where Mac can dominate neutral on the ground but is heavily punished if knocked off stage. His inclusion gives Smash one of its most polarizing yet iconic archetypes: a character who feels unstoppable on-stage but must avoid the air at all costs, mirroring the ring-bound nature of his home series.
