30. WARIO
Franchise / home series: Wario Land / WarioWare
Notable non-Smash games: Wario Land 4 (2001); WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! (2003); WarioWare: Smooth Moves (2006)
Wario made his full playable debut in Smash with Brawl (after appearing as an icon and reference in earlier titles). Combining elements from Wario Land and WarioWare, he embodies greed, mischief, and gross-out humor in both personality and moveset.
In Smash, Wario is a tricky, unpredictable fighter with strong aerials, a powerful command grab bite, and one of the most unique mechanics in the series: the Wario Waft, a fart-based charge attack that grows stronger over time. His motorcycle adds mobility, stage control, and item potential through the bike’s pieces. Wario’s floaty movement and unusual hitboxes make him feel very different from traditional brawlers.
Across the series, Wario has shifted between mid-tier oddball and high-tier threat, especially in Ultimate where his combo game and Waft setups can decide stocks in an instant. He stands as one of Smash’s most comedic yet deceptively deep characters, fully capturing the chaotic spirit of his home series.
