28. PIT

Franchise / home series: Kid Icarus

Notable non-Smash games: Kid Icarus (1986); Kid Icarus: Uprising (2012)

Pit joined Smash with Brawl, resurrecting the dormant Kid Icarus franchise. His appearance helped reintroduce the angelic hero to modern audiences and paved the way for his starring role in Kid Icarus: Uprising, also directed by Sakurai.

In Smash, Pit is designed as a well-rounded, mobility-focused fighter with strong recovery and versatile projectiles. His Palutena’s Arrow can be guided mid-flight, while his multiple jumps and gliding (in Brawl) give him impressive aerial flexibility. Over time, his moveset has been refined to emphasize straightforward weapons-based combat with the Upperdash Arm, Guardian Orbitars, and side-B dash attacks.

Pit’s character is often portrayed as upbeat and heroic, with later titles giving him more voice lines and interactions referencing Uprising’s humor. He serves as a bridge between classic NES history and modern Nintendo, and his solid, all-around moveset makes him a reliable pick for players who enjoy balanced, aerial-leaning fighters.
