49. MII BRAWLER / MII SWORDFIGHTER / MII GUNNER

Franchise / home series: Mii (Wii / 3DS / Wii U / Switch avatars)

Notable non-Smash appearances: Wii Sports (2006); Wii Sports Resort (2009); Tomodachi Life (2013); Nintendo Switch Sports (2022)

The Mii Fighters debuted in Smash 4, allowing players to bring customizable avatars into battle. Representing the player rather than a single franchise, they underline the idea that you can join the fight alongside Nintendo’s icons.

There are three variants: Mii Brawler (close-range martial artist), Mii Swordfighter (weapon-based fighter), and Mii Gunner (projectile-focused shooter). In Smash 4, each could equip selectable special moves, enabling a wide variety of custom builds. This made them extremely flexible but also difficult to standardize for competitive use.

In Ultimate, the Miis’ special options were streamlined, but costume options greatly expanded—with outfits referencing numerous series, including third-party franchises. The Mii Fighters offer a personalized way to experience Smash, giving players self-insert characters and fun recreations of other media personalities, all while providing three distinct gameplay archetypes.
