11. CAPTAIN FALCON

Franchise / home series: F-Zero

Notable non-Smash games: F-Zero (1990); F-Zero X (1998); F-Zero GX (2003)

Captain Falcon has been a playable fighter since the first Smash and has arguably become more famous through Smash than through his own racing games. As the stylish bounty hunter and pilot of the Blue Falcon, he represents the high-speed F-Zero series and brings a flashy, over-the-top martial arts flavor to the roster.

In gameplay, Captain Falcon is known for his incredible ground speed, strong aerial game, and iconic moves such as the Falcon Punch and the “knee of justice” (his electrified forward aerial). In Super Smash Bros. Melee, he became one of the most beloved combo characters, capable of explosive strings, tech-chases, and highlight-reel KOs that helped shape the game’s competitive identity.

Across the series, Captain Falcon has retained his identity as a fast, explosive, yet somewhat risky character whose reward is massive when he connects. His taunts, victory poses, and voice lines emphasize his larger-than-life personality. Even as F-Zero has been largely dormant, Captain Falcon keeps the franchise alive in the public eye and remains one of the most hype-inducing characters in Smash history.
